The Experiential Learning Theory puts experience at its core, posing an essential difference with cognitive learning theory, which focuses on knowledge and behavior. This theory not only focuses on developing communication skills but also on developing socialization through language. It offers a constructivist approach, where students build their learning from what they already know (experience) through written and oral texts. The balance between background knowledge and new information implies a process of accommodation and assimilation, which is why reflection—and, therefore, critical thinking—happen, both essential in meaningful language learning applied to real life outside of the classroom.
